this reminds me of when jake grew a crazy beard and took photos of different phases, although not making a really interesting statement.

That's what I'm going to have to say about Roger Sayre. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I have had the best landlords and Roger + his family were no exception. I truly miss them and was definitely sad to leave the apartment we shared in their house.
Okay now besides being generous + nice--he's got a sense of humor which we all know is equally important. Case in point: His Ebay Art Beard. What it was: "I decided to sell the right to design my facial hair, getting the inspiration from our magnetic friend Wooly Willy." (Ha!!)
Read the story.
Now what's even more exciting is, Roger, besides being extremely generous + nice, is also fantastically gifted. He takes the most memorable portraits (each taking over an hour to expose) I've seen and I'm certainly not the only one who thinks so--check out this article in the New York Times which explains his process + how it came to be. Major props to Roger!! (And a big shout out to the whole family.) "Leslie" by Roger Sayre one hour photograph, 16" x 20"
